You hear a lot about how Obama will probably be getting the youth vote. Just a week or two ago I was listening to the Sean Hannity show (great show by the way) and Mr. Hannity was interviewing a few young people. They all said they would be voting for Obama. Most of them didn't have too many reasons why, other than, "He's cool!" Okay well that's bad enough. Then, I was chatting with young neighbor friend of mine. (Well, he's only two years younger than me, but at my age, that's a big difference....heh heh). Anyways, we end up on politics, and, like most of the other young fools these days, he says he would vote for Obama, if he could. Thank heavens he's not voting age yet. Resisting the urge to slap him silly, I ask "Now why do you say that?" Of course, he says, "Well, Obama's younger, and so I think it's kind of neat that we have a young guy running for President. McCain is real old and he's no good at making speeches." I retorted, "Well I'd like to see you make a speech!" and we parted and went our merry ways. I got to thinking later about this exchange. (As a matter of fact, I've done a lot of thinking on this issue. It's kind of lonely, being young and for McCain.) At any rate, I don't get the whole "Obama-being-young" thing. He's not!! How can any stretch of the imagination call 48 young? He's my parents' age, for gosh sakes! Which brings me to a whole nother argument. Young voters of America, Obama is probably close to most of your parents' ages. He is of the generation which implemented regular (and far too early) bedtimes before you moved out. Not so long ago, that generation was telling you to eat your spinach. Don't hang out with those bad influences. Get off the computer. Listen up! Don't drive so fast. Don't talk back to me.
When you hear Obama give that charismatic speech, just imagine him saying, "Go to bed!"
Sure McCain is pretty old. But if you're like me, you know great old people.
Grandma and Grandpa.
Unlike Obama, John McCain belongs to the generation that still lavishes you with presents on your birthday. The generation that gives you hugs. The generation that never scolds you. The generation that tells you stories about the good ol' days. The generation that takes you into the kitchen and lets you have another cooky, even though Mom and Dad said no. That's the generation John McCain belongs to.
Now don't get me wrong. I love and respect my parents, but it's often a "tough love" relationship. I just want to say this to all young voters: Let's wait til Obama is a grandpa until we even consider voting for him.
Vote for Grandpa!
